About Ucrainica Research Institute

Ucrainica Research Institute is a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to education and research, providing information on issues affecting the dynamics of the Ukrainian Canadian community within the framework of multiculturalism. Being community-oriented as far as the nature of its research and education goals is concerned, the Institute has become an important resource centre. In this respect, the Institute complements the activities of established academic institutions in Canada in specific areas of research.

History

The Institute was created in 1973 to provide a forum for the study and discussion of issues pertaining to education, especially as they relate to the Ukrainian Canadian community. By researching and monitoring the current processes affecting the Ukrainian Canadian community in a changing world, the Institute is confident that the information made available will assist the community in its endeavours and development.

Programs

The Institute implements an extensive program of public education by:

      a)  sponsoring the "Literature and Arts" page in the community newspaper Ukrainian Echo;
b)  promoting lectures read by distinguished guest speakers;
c)  organizing conferences and seminars related to education and research;
d)  pursuing research in the field of Canada-Ukraine relations;
e)  maintaining a library of books, periodicals and newspapers;
f)  producing audio-visual and video-documentary materials;
g)  sponsoring scholarly publications.

Ongoing Projects

      a)  support for lectures and research in Canada on the Baturyn archeological dig;

      b)  development of the Holodomor education CDROM package and “Exhibit in a Box” display for Canadian universities, schools, libraries and museums;
c)  support for the upcoming Canadian publication Holodomor: The Ukrainian Genocide;
